Sunday 25 May marks the much-anticipated return of Wings and Wheels at Stow Maries Great War Aerodrome – one of Essex’s most exciting family days out. This action-packed event combines thrilling aerial displays with a gleaming showcase of classic cars, promising a memorable day for visitors of all ages.

Why visit Wings and Wheels at Stow Maries?

Set against the backdrop of one of the county’s most fascinating historic sites, this annual celebration brings together vintage aircraft and up to 200 stunning vehicles, from timeless classics to quirky rarities. Whether you’re an aviation enthusiast, a lover of vintage motors or simply looking for something a little different to do with the kids, there’s something here to delight everyone.

From the ground, families can watch in awe as beautifully preserved First and Second World War aircraft take to the skies. Expect dramatic low-level flypasts, daring dogfight displays and jaw-dropping manoeuvres, with the line-up hoping to include rare aircraft like the Albatross DVa, the Nieuport 17, a Russian Yak-52 and the popular Turbulent Team.

Down on the airfield, there’s just as much to enjoy. Classic and vintage cars will be on display throughout the day, with their proud owners on hand to chat about their much-loved machines. Foodies won’t be disappointed either – the airfield’s barbecue will be sizzling with bacon rolls, burgers and hotdogs, while local brewery Datum Attitude will be serving up its aviation-inspired beers. For something a little sweeter, head to the Airmen’s Mess café, where hot meals, snacks and cakes will be available all day long.

For those who want to get up close to the aircraft, the Flight Line Walks are not to be missed. Led by the aerodrome’s resident experts, these guided experiences offer a rare chance to see some of Britain’s rarest aircraft up close and learn the incredible stories behind them. Places are limited and can only be booked on the day, so arrive early to avoid missing out.

Ian Flint, CEO of Stow Maries Great War Aerodrome, says:
“Wings & Wheels is a real highlight for us. There’s nothing quite like seeing those classic warbirds flying just above the field, hearing the cheers of the crowd and watching people of all ages marvel at these incredible machines. Pair that with an excellent car display, great food and the chance to go airside, and it really is a brilliant day out for the whole family.”

Tickets often sell out in advance, so early booking is recommended.
